Glamping

On Friday a friend told me to put the April 17th weekend on my calendar for going camping. I love camping! A few years ago I found a booklet that listed all the state parks in Texas and what camping facilities were at each park. I have been to a lot of them. Lake Ray Roberts north of Dallas is my favorite spot so far, but its further away since I moved. I'll have to explore more that are in the south Dallas area now.

I saw this article a while ago that talks about a new style of camping called "Glamping"

Several years ago I went with some friends to a gay camp at Lake Murray in southern Oklahomo called Camp Willowswish. It's primitive camping, the closest facilities are about 5 miles away, but that didn't stop people from bring a lot of things to make their camp more comfortable. I saw carpet, decorations, houseplants and generators for their A/C, lights and music. The weekend was capped off with a drag show and the crowning of Miss Willowswish. Not really my type of camping, but hanging with my friends and watching all the guys in the lake during the day was fun!

I'm definitely more of a rugged camper. My idea of camping is; getting a tent set up, blowing up an air mattress (OK, I do like a little comfort), building a fire pit and gathering wood. Then opening a beer and settling back to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature! I'll also turn off my cell phone and go hiking, swimming or biking. Or if I'm with friends I just enjoy conversation, playing dominoes or cards.

I don't think I'll go "Glamping" anytime soon!!

Willowshish? FABULOUS name! I think that would be FUN ONE time, but your idea of camping is the nature experience, and is NOT camping any other way. When Rodger & I first met, we camped at the treeline in the Sierras at Sardine Lake. Fabulous day, trout for dinner..than as we're at the fire about 8:30 that night, a big RV pulls up in the next spot, turns on a generator, air conditioning and watches a LOUD TV until midnight. We LEFT the next morning....a fabulous experience ruined. WHY did they come to this remote place and destroy the experience?

Hey I have done the down-and-dirty camping and I kind of thinking I like the idea of "Glamping"! Wow, my own bed room isn't that nice!
