Mormon no more

The following letter came in the mail yesterday:

March 3, 2009

Dear Brother Jim Stuff,

This letter is to notify you that, in accordance with your request, you are no longer a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Should you desire to become a member of the Church in the future, the local bishop or branch president will be happy to help you.

Sincerely,

Manager
Member and Statistical Records

Well, that's another chapter in my life that is now closed.

Recently I had my own Reconnect/Disconnect with a person I knew in high school. TM found me on Facebook (I'll call him "Tortured Mormon" - TM for short). TM decided that I needed to be saved, brought back into the fold and he was the one to help me. TM could tell (from my 2 inch square) picture that I still had that look, that "I still know the church is true look." Mind you I haven't seen TM in about thirty years! Of course he jumps into this stream of mormon rhetoric about how it is possible to change if only you'd pray enough and want it bad enough, blah blah blah!

I promptly told TM that the rhetoric has to STOP if we are ever to become friends. I tell him that I resigned from the church because of their stand against civil rights. Oh, here's the part of why I call him TM, we played around when we were about 12 or 13. He admitted in the first email that he struggles everyday with "same-sex attraction". So this prompts me to ask him if he's depressed. I tell him how I've been studying, when I can, the Eastern religions of Buddha and Hindu. How meditation brings me calm and peace.

This threw him into another rage where he said basically, that homosexually is a sin just like being a serial rapist, serial murderer, a pedophile, drug addict, etc. I don't like being compared with any of those! I promptly replied; "Who the hell do you think you are to judge me like that?" Again, another good example of a Christian not being very Christ-like, when did he ever preach hate and that it is OK to judge someone that harshly? I told TM that it's because of ignorant people like him that I'm glad I left the church.
TM is now blocked on facebook.

So for more reasons than ever, I'm happy that this chapter in my life is closed.

Is it true that all ex-Mormon are hot?

I've always thought the Mormons were just a big old cult.
I had a famous cousin who was a Mormon, and while he was considered a saint by the LDS, We saw him as a crazy bastard.

I had a very similar experience on facebook too. An old friend added me and we chatted for a short while. When we were friends "I" was the ultra religious one and he was the....heathen...now apparently our positions have reversed. Whatever...some people simply can't learn. Big pat on the back to you for living your life with dignity!

I've also been "found" by an old Mormon friend on Facebook, but not with your TM attachments. Congrats on the resignation....Jim, I remember a bit of "relief" sort of when I got the letter...... and I've enjoyed that feeling since. It is tragic that people like TM NEVER learn that their own mind/spirit and operate internally without simply parroting everything they're being told to think/say/believe. THAT is what he's doing, hoping to mask what he really feels inside. Tragic.
