We had a lot of pets when I was growing up. It seemed we always had a dog and a couple cats. We also raised rabbits and ducks, many of them from babies. And I had gerbils.
I'll only mention a few of the pets as well as post some pictures. It was fun to look at old pictures and remember the fun I had growing up.
The dog I remember most was Rusty. He had the body and hair of a Golden Retreiver and the legs of a Bassett Hound, at least that's what we figured.
He was a great dog! He would find a baby rabbit that dropped out of the cages in the backyard and gently carry it to the house in his mouth, to drop at your feet.

He would also accompany me on my paper route and on one such trip he was hit by a car and I had to carry him home, I was crying like a baby. I think my siblings blamed me for him dying.
Our cat I remember most was a Siamese we named Sam-I-Am. He was my youngest sister's favorite, she would dress him in doll clothes and be holding him constantly.
I got some gerbils that I named Madame Chewy and Sir Nibbles (LOL). I was holding Madame Chewy one day and I said; "I think she's pregnant, look how fat she is!" The next day we checked their cage and counted 12 babies! When they finally got some hair and opened their eyes they were the cutest things and so much fun! We gave them away to family and friends.
I realized I was allergic to animals as a teenager. I don't have any pets now but wish I could. And no, I will not consider a hairless cat. They look freaky! lol

We had Duke, a gorgeous German Shepherd.
We had Sugar, a mutt who lived to be over twenty and died in my mother's lap.
We fed a stray cat we nicknamed Sylvester.
We had a part-Manx cat--half a tail--we called Pandy, because he looked like a Panda bear.
We had a turtle and some hamsters, a rabbit named Pete and a small snake that disappeared INSIDE the house.
I have had, since then, eleven cats and two dogs. Eight of the cats and one of the dogs have passed on.
These days, it's just the cats, Tuxedo, MaxGoldberg of the Boca Raton Goldbergs, Tallulah Belle, and the doing Ozzo.
That is a lot of animals.
Madame Chewy and Sir Nibbles made my day!!! Hysterical.
I only had goldfish and a parakeet (Chico) when I was a kid.
As an adult I've had fish, two more parakeets (Buddy and Junior) and currently a spoiled rotten Jack Russell Terrier (Scooter).
