Google Earth

I have always loved geography! Even as a kid this was my favorite subject in school. A few years ago someone gave me a large color atlas and I would spend hours pouring over it. Now I have a new way to fill this love of the world.

I first saw Google Earth on brother #2's computer years ago. Just a few months ago I finally downloaded it myself. I love Google Earth. I love to go virtual sightseeing!

It is an amazing thing! I have looked at the house I grew up in. I have looked at the places I lived in New Zealand while I was a missionary there over 25 years ago.

A few weeks ago I looked at islands; I have looked at Ibiza in the Mediterranean. I took a tour around Iceland, saw where Reykjavik is on the island. I found Easter Island, you can zoom in close enough to see the giant statues! I also looked at the Marshall Islands and saw the bunker built to contain the radioactive debris from all the neculear test done there in the 1940s.

Another weekend I looked at Timbuktu and the small city-states and countries in Europe. You can get close up views of cities in central China that have larger populations than most American cities, but ones we never hear about!

This feeds my need to see other lands and to try to understand how other people live. See what their lives are like.

Does anyone else go virtual sight-seeing like me?

I too love geography but I've never heard of this site. I always got As for knowing state capitals and where everything is.
