Random Question Wednesday

Complete the sentence: I would have more peace of mind if____________.
Let me see, should I compile a list?
-If I got out of debt
-If I got a better job
-If I got a boyfriend/partner
-If.. if... if...

No, I'm a realist. I know if all those things happened I would still worry about something! I inherited the worry gene from my mother. I can wake up in the middle of the night and my mind won't turn off! I try to solve the world's problems! I relive all my past mistakes, no matter how small. Then I worry about things that might happen. That's why I'm taking my time reading the book I mention a lot, and the one listed in the sidebar called "The Way Of The Small" by Michael Gellert.

I also don't want to live thinking "I'll be happy if 'this' happens", whatever 'this' is; a new job, new spouse, etc. Too often we live only to reach a certain goal and then once we reach it we need to find something else that we can reach to make us happy.

So the answer is: I would have more peace of mind if I live in the moment and enjoy what I have right now.

Once you start saying "I'll be happy if...." you open a whole new can of worms.
Because you get the 'if' and then a new 'if' pops up; you get that 'if' and BAM there's another one.
I try to live by the idea to "want the things I have, not have the things I want."
It's simple.
It's good.
And there's not one 'if'.

if I accepted that where I am in my life is exactly where I'm supposed to be.

When if forget that, I lose my peace of mind.

And here I DIDNT get the worry gene. Mostly I just sort of go with things.

I will get concerned if debt mounts or there are too many things I have let slide on my to do list.

But that's about it

I aim for contentment. It's out there......somewhere.

The more we focus "the answer" somewhere outside ourselves, the more it alludes us. That's addictive thinking.

All those "if only's" would surely help me be more comfortable, etc. but joy comes from within.

Mindfulness. Here. Now.
