Change of plans weekend

There seemed to be a lot of change of plans this weekend.

As I was driving to Moody to start packing up Troy's trailer for the trip to Houston area for the renaissance festival I get a call from my him. He had been in Seattle all week to see his wife who had a few days leave before she left for Afghanistan. There were "issues" with the plane and he could be delayed, would I be able to pick him up at DFW at 8:30? Sure.... I turned around and head back into Dallas. Luckily I had only gone about 25 miles.

I stopped for some groceries that I would need by Sunday evening when I got home and as I was leaving the store parking lot Troy called back. He wouldn't be getting into Dallas until 1 am. He also decided he wouldn't be going to the faire this weekend after all. Change of plans number two. Should I go down and get a hotel room? Should I go camping? Should I call friends that live there? Should I not go and go the gayborhood block party? But I had to go home to drop off the groceries.

I started calling my friends who live in Houston to see if they were going to go camping. No, they all lived about 30 minutes from the faire and would drive home each night. So I decide to take the back seats out of my small SUV, bring the airmatress and sleep in my vehicle. I got the vehicle all packed and ready and was in bed by 9pm so I could get an early 5 am start.

I'm driving along and still very sleepy. After an hour driving I realize that I was extremely sleepy and need to rest. I found what seemed like a good safe, secure spot and slept for a good hour or more. So my plans to get there by 10 am had changed, but for good reason. I finally made it, set up the bed in the back and headed on in to the faire. Friends all met up and we start drinking! Pirates do love their rum.

I was feeling good by noon, buzzed by 4 and trashed by 7. I again met more interesting people and had a great time talking and hanging out with my friends. I didn't plan on it but I came out to the few couples that didn't know. I made the guys more comfortable by telling them; "I know you're straight! I want you to know that I don't cross that line with my friends!" That wasn't really a change of plans, but something I hadn't planned on doing. I come out to people on a "need to know" basis and so I guess this was one of those situations.

Sleeping in the SUV isn't a good idea, not in one as small as mine. Especially when one is trashed. LOL. But it still was a great weekend!

Here are a couple more photos of the faire.

I love dress-ups :) Especially face painting. Do you know a whole lot of history and stuff too? I knew a lady who practised the art of swordplay...She was also a medieal recreationist sorta person.
