The picture shows an Indian student that was living with us for a while, her name was Ella. I don't remember her last name or much about her and this picture made me think about her again.
In the late 1950s through the 1990s there was a Mormon church program called The Indian Student Placement Services. Young people who lived on the reservations near the four corners area came to live with Mormon families during the school year.
Ella didn't stay the whole school year with us, mom and dad never explained why (or if they did I wasn't paying attention). My aunt and uncle had a student live with them. Norma came back year after year and graduated high school in Utah. He seemed like just another one of my cousins.
I think about Ella, wonder if she remembers the time spent in our home. What happened to her? It would be interesting to know.
