On Saturday evening I met my friends at a Screams, a 'Haunted House Theme Park'. It's on the grounds where they have the Renaissance Faire in the spring. I think it's a good use of the buildings and the grounds in the off season.
I love going to haunted houses and seeing the Halloween decorations and seeing if they can actually scare me.
Of course it's always fun to see 'people of the female persuasion' get scared and scream, so one of them is almost a requirement to attend to get the most fun from the experience.
The female in attendance on Saturday night was the girlfriend of my friend. She screamed at all the right spots and jumped and waved her arms all funny. But if I was leading the group through the mazes of dimly lit corridors with spooky things painted on them I often got the monster lurking in the corner that jumped out into my face. I would usually jump a few inches off the floor, shake my hands or arms, usually in some sort of protective mode over my face or heart. Then I would laugh a big loud belly laugh! But I swear, I never screamed! Not a manly man like me! Nope... not even once! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL
Does anyone else like haunted houses? Are there some good ones in your area of the country?

There is a crazy-scary place near us in Lakeville, MA that Jim and I went to with a friend a couple of years ago. It's a walk through the woods, through various paths and 'rooms' that they create with cheap and shabbily assembled pieces of wood. Lots of scary scenes and people jumping out from behind walls and trees.
At the end, they gather the entire group together in this one area. All of a sudden, out of the woods came a group of about 10 poeple carrying chainsaws (with the chains removed) running at us and screaming - which sent all of us running for our lives in complete and total panic. It was awesome.
I had the sh!t scared out of me once, but not in a haunted house. It was waaay past midnight one night in New Orleans. Greg and I were half drunk, walking down a darkened street. We walked past an old, dark bronze statue on a pedestal on the sidewalk, and just as I reach the closest point to it, the statue came alive and leaned into my face and screamed "Ahhhhhhh!!!" It was one of those damned street performers!
I screamed and my heart stopped for a second, plus I spilled my beer all over myself. I turned around and realized what happened, and my normally calm demeanor was overcome by intense rage. I swear I growled like a bear and snorted like a bull. Then I made a fist and lunged at that asshole. He knew what he did to me was over the line and recognized that I was about to kill him. He literally ran away, running down the middle of the street, ducking into the crowd.
There are several haunted house tours here in Minnesota. There is actually a book called "Haunted Minnesota" about all the locations you can visit. My friend Tony goes to a lot. I should start too. I enjoy it!
I love haunted houses!
I like the ones that give you the creeps, rather than the 'hack and slay' types.
I like haunted hayrides even more.
