People are my favorite animals!

I love to just watch people sometimes. The weird things they do, the way they raise more weird kids.

There is a chain of stores in Dallas area, maybe they are elsewhere too, where little girls could go play dress up. I don't remember the store name, but I called it "Prosti-tots". Seriously, they put a lot of makeup on these little girls and dressed them like sluts! For ages 4 - 10!! Kind of like this picture from Fail Blog:

These are the same people who will sit their kids at in the bar while they drink and wait for a table at a restaurant! Or maybe that is only in Plano, TX. LOL

My doppelgängers

Random Question Wednesday

People who stand on an escalator! Because they are lazy and lose the meaning of the word escalate! This machine that take people from one floor to the other is not called a "lazy people mover" it was invented to escalate the stair climber to the next floor!

This is annoying to me because Americans are so overweight! And yet they don't see anything wrong with just standing there, blocking my way! The key to exercise and losing weight is moving! I look for every opportunity to walk more; I don't drive around a parking lot waiting for a spot close to the door, I park farther out and walk a few more steps into the store. I also use the stairs whenever possible over an elevator or escalator.

You would be surprised to hear how many people at work comment to me that they don't have time to workout every day. But they can tell you about every show that was on TV the night before!

OK, I'm getting off my soap-box. What frustrates y'all?

Dancing With The Stars and Jim

Many many years ago, in a land far far away in a whole other Mormon life I used to ballroom dance!

While attending BYU in 1982 I saw an ad for auditions for the ballroom dance team. I love to dance so I thought I'd go see what it was about. I tried out and made the team! I realized I'd better enroll in some dance classes then. I can't find any pictures of me performing, I wish I could.

So I love to watch each season of Dancing With The Stars. This season my favorite, from the very first week is Kelly Osbourne. LOVE HER! I'm so happy she made it to the finals! Here is her first dance:


The gay-dar is working on almost all the dance professionals on the show and I decided to google Kelly's partner Louis Van Amstel and sure enough, gay! All the male ballroom dancers at BYU were! Anyway... here is a talk show they were on where he introduces his boyfriend. Humph! A little twink! Oh well... Here is the clip from the show:


You know I'll be in front of the TV tonight hoping Kelly beats the dancebelt off of the homophobe Donny F'in Osmond!

Mom and Dad's Anniversary

Today would have been their 54th Anniversary!

There were married the day before Thanksgiving in 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They always told us they weren't married in the Mormon temple because none of their families could have been there, so they waited a year before they went to the temple.

This always seemed kind of weird growing up, but I never questioned it. Many years later when all us kids were adults mom finally told the big family secret! They had sex before they were married and therefore couldn't go to the temple for a year! This was a big deal to them in small town Utah and in 1955. I don't think any less of them because they did, it makes them more human and more real people! I love them even more knowing they had weaknesses.

Some of my siblings had a hard time hearing this. I guess they still have a hard time with our parents being human. I learned the hard lesson more than twenty years ago that the root of all my problems wasn't my parents! They did the best the could and they loved each other and all their children.

I always think of my parents during this time of year. We weren't close for a long time, from the mid 1980's when I came out to them till about 1992. The family gathered for the first time in about 15 years in 1995 for their 40th anniversary. They were so happy to have their whole family around them again.

Happy Anniversary mom and dad. I love and miss you!

New version of a holiday favorite

Last year a co-worker brought in a Pumpkin Pie Cake she made and I had to have the recipe!! OMG! It's great! And easy to make. I've made it a few times and will make it again this year too. Thought I'd share the recipe:


Filling:
1 15 oz can pure pumpkin puree
1 12 oz can evaporated milk
1 & 1/2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
Mix all ingredients list above together until smooth

1 box of yellow cake mix
1 stick of real butter

Sprinkle 1/4 of the cake mix in the bottom of a 9" x 13" cake pan
Pour the filling on top
Pour the remaining cake mix on the top of that
Melt the butter then drizzle it over the top

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 - 55 minutes (the top will be brown and a toothpick comes out mostly clean)

Serve with Cool Whip or vanilla ice cream

I found the picture and the recipe on the Secrets of a Southern Kitchen blog. It suggests you add crushed nuts to the top of it, but I don't. I also add some cake mix at the bottom of the pan before you pour in the pumpkin mix, I think it gives it a 'crust' feel.

The Perfect Life

I own the movie A Home At The End Of The World. I like it, it's very unglamorous, gritty and very true to what life is. I watched it with Valdemort years ago and he didn't like it. It wasn't life tied up in the neat little package that some of us want. But life is like that, it never turns out how we really would like it to! It's just the life we have. And sometimes the families that we end up with are not the ones we're born into.

That has a lot of meaning for me since I'm not close with a lot of my family. I'm very close to my nieces, nephews and even my nephew's girlfriend, but not my siblings. I also live several thousands of miles away I don't get to see them or be with the ones I do like as much as we all would like. So I have made new friends that are like family to me. And I'm OK with that... it may not be what I had planned for my life, but its the life I've got.

Other people may feel a loss not being close to their biological families during the upcoming holiday season, I am a little bit... but not really. I'm OK with my life just the way it is.

So I'm going to say; spending time with friends. A nice dinner and an evening of conversation or a board game!

I would have said a date, but I haven't had one of those in a long time! I am a romantic so a nice way to spend a cool fall or cold winter's evening would be cuddled up with someone by the fire. There would be nice wine and sensual music in the background as we talk about all kinds of things. Of course there would be lots of touching, caressing and all that mushy stuff! {wink wink}

Sad Panda weekend

There are no pictures from the weekend to post. It makes me a sad panda to think about it.

I usually keep my phone, camera and wallet in a leather pouch that hangs from my belt. It was a warm day with the temperatures in the mid 80s! So I took off some layers from under the monk's robes and decided to leave my wallet behind. Thank God I did that!

It was a great day! We were celebrating a dear friend's birthday and we all had an enjoyable day wandering from pub to pub. On the drunken stumble out to the campgrounds where the perfect weather would guarantee fun around the bonfire later (several people bring out the bongos and it is rumored that people dance topless around the bonfire.) We lost my friend Troy so I left him several messages to meet us there. We did find him, but I realized my pouch was gone! Dropped somewhere between the front gate and his trailer. I stripped out of the monk's robes and into some clothes, grabbed the flashlight and went looking. No luck! My camera and phone gone!

Well, what can you do? I went back and got another beer and went to join my friends at the bonfire. I think there are some pictures of me out there somewhere putting on Liz's belly-dancer scarf with jinglies stuff on it, taking my shirt off and shaking my stuff around the fire! It was fun.... LOL.

Sunday was a more subdued day but a perfect day to wear the kilt. No pouch with a camera and phone was turned into the lost and found so I had a struggle not to beat myself up over losing it. It seemed to be a long drive home.

Monday was spent ordering a new phone and finding a new camera. It was a good weekend but I was still a sad panda.
