I woke up early.
Larry woke up as I was getting out of bed and putting on my jeans. "Where are you going?" he asked. "For a walk on the beach with my camera," was my reply. "You want to go with me?" I inquired. "Sure" he said.
It was January 2004 and my boyfriend at the time, Larry and I took a dream vacation. We flew into Palm Spring with a return ticket back to Dallas a week later from San Francisco. We had a rental car, no hotel reservations, no itinerary and no set plans. After fighting LA traffic and seeing Hollywood we were so happy to finally be on the coast; Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway!
After driving past Malibu and other beaches Larry was anxious to stop, this was his first time to be at the Pacific ocean. We found an exit and got out to walk around the beach. There was this quaint little hotel right on the beach so he inquired how much it was, it was within our budget so we got an oceanside room. We had a great day playing on the beach and a romantic evening watching a beautiful sunset. He only grumbled a little bit as I drew him outside into the dark morning. Soon the sky began filling with light and these incredible colors! The sky, beach and ocean were beautiful!
This is one of my favorite pictures from that morning. Larry was glad I dragged him out of bed. We walked hand in hand on the beach and enjoyed the beauty of the earth and the quiet morning.

I swear, those unscripted, unplanned moments of our lives are the best. And often they do happen early morning or late night.
