Family UGH!

I did something this morning that I usually don't have to do. I got this email from my elderly aunt in Utah.
Mormon.
Ultra conservative.
Republican.

It was about some new bumper stickers and how they've gotten more aggressive. "Obama and Osama; both fund terrorism" type themes. And some about how the gays are ruining the country. Blah, blah, blah....

Then her comment: "I love these, where can I get one for my car?"

I hesitated only a minute before I hit reply and said; "I love you aunt Arlene, but I am very offended by these."

Maybe it will mean something to her...? Maybe it won't. But I cannot read that and ignore it or just hit delete!

And does anyone wonder why I'm not close to my biological family anymore...?

Anyway... hope y'all have a great weekend!

I just had this conversation about Obama/Osama a few days ago wuth a Canadian friend- I was arguing how great America is for electing someone like Obama into office and how no-one really made reference to his name sounding remotely close to Osama - and now this post on your blog.

I hope people don't lose themselves into such mindless wasteful references....

Oh Jim, this is so uncool of her. Were you the only recipient of the email, or was it a case of her sending it to her entire address book? Old folks and computers don't mix.

It's really sad how easily swayed the weak-minded among us are. Hatred is such a powerful force and so very many Americans have been overcome by it. Where will it end?

I second cubby!

the narrow-minded folk are truly missing out on life's richness by hating on everyone who does not follow in lockstep with rush and glenn and sarah et al. I pity the fools (said in a mr. t voice)!

I've had to do the same thing. But I'm not embarassed or afraid to do it any longer. I've had enough. We all have.

I think one of the reasons why these uglier and nastier comments are running amok is that nobody stands up to say they are upset or offended, they disagree etc.
I am glad she did so.

Ditto - I have a cousin-by-marriage in CALIFORNIA, of all places, who sends me all sorts of crap like that. His emails go straight to my junk mail. Maybe I'll grow a pair and actually tell him to STFU. You have inspired me...
