Happy New Year! 1.1.11

Happy New Year everyone! Hope y'all brought in the new year in style! I had the pleasure of meeting Erik and his husbear! It was nice to start a new year with new friends!

It's a new year; a new attitude and a new look for the blog too.

I don't make many New Year's Resolutions. I'm not a list maker, I don't want a bunch of things to try to remember. I like asking friends and coworkers in about June or July if they remember what their New Year's Resolution was.

I usually just pick a theme; a mantra, to live by for the year. Last year's was: Live Simple; meaning I should take the time to stop and enjoy the simple, small things in life.

This year my resolution/mantra is: Take the High Road

Let me explain: For as long as I can remember my mother, a teacher or a boss has always advised me to be the bigger person, the one to take the high road and be the one to just do the right thing. Even when it's obvious when someone had wronged me and I had every right be be upset or angry. I have always felt like saying "Why me? Why should I be the one that has to be the better person? I mean, shouldn't everyone always be their best?" I've always resented it!

But now, I have decided that this will be my choice. I will act and not just react when in difficult situations. I will make a point to always be my best and not give into the base feeling to get back at someone or get even.

What are your New Years Resolutions?

You're a good man, Jim. I wish there were more good men like you in this world.

When you're on the high road, don't forget to stand up for yourself. There are plenty of people on the low road who would like nothing more than to drag you down with them. Don't let them.

Happy New Year to you too Jim...

Not sure if you are interested in "Self Help" type books, but there is one I have that I go back to often called "The Four Agreements" by don Miguel Ruiz. It was a great help for me when I decided to "take the higher road" a few years back...

There is a link to a summary on my blog...

I am still creating my list of resolutions. I made 12 last year and achieved 6 of them.

I want to thank you for something I bet you didn't know you did. According to Wordpress, you blog was one of the top 3 places where I got referrals/visitors. (A Lewis and Homer were the other two).

So I am even more grateful for knowing you!

Where do I send the royalty check?

I don't have any. I just try to be as good as I can. Resolution has its burden, I think.
