Most people that park there and that work in my building jaywalk (blue arrow). I don't jaywalk! My pet-peeve is the people that do. If you go the other direction and cross at the crosswalk it's maybe an extra 100 feet (green arrows).
This annoys me... why can't people walk a few extra steps to cross the street legally? My mother taught me to not play or walk out into traffic. But every one of my coworkers make fun of me for walking to the crosswalk. I tell them that I'm not surprised that there are so many obese people in the country that they can't walk a few extra feet. This goes along with my pet-peeve of people just standing on an esclator... don't get me started on that!
I drive on that road on my way home and I am amazed to see people running out into traffic. It's especially bad in the winter when it gets dark early.
Am I just being weird about this?

The traffic lights aren't timed for jwalkers either and they create a hazard for drivers and slow the flow.
If you hit enough of them, they eventually stop jaywalking.
You're not weird. It drives me nuts when people will waste a gallon of gas trying to get the closest parking spot. Or worse, park in a handicapped spot without a permit. Or the worst, have a permit but seem to have no discernible infirmity.
My sis-in-law got a handicapped permit after shoulder surgery 3 years ago. She seems to have recovered admirably, yet still has the permit. I rode with her healthy husband to the grocery store and guess where he parked. I was mortified.
I wear a FitBit pedometer and when anyone asks why I park in the neighboring lot or why I refuse to take the elevator, I show them my steps and tell them I need 5X more by the end of the day just to be considered "not sedentary". That usually shuts them up.
They are likely the same people that cruise around the supermarket/mall parking lot looking for the space that's closest to the door.
