Final Pic in the May blog challenge

In the last couple of weeks when I've been out biking I've seen this sign on the side of a building. Last night there wasn't anyone around so I snapped a few pictures.

I started this challenge with a pic of me... why not end it with a self portrait too?
This is just the regular camera, no special app or editing.

I've had fun... I hope I didn't bore too many people.

Again... thank you to Kelly, Erik, the other Sean, Sean the other one and Buddy for joining in!

30th Pic in May

I was driving home during the weekend across The Bridge and I noticed there was no traffic! I slowed down because I want to get a picture while I was directly under the arch. I had the camera set as I was slowing down and I hurridly pointed it out the window and snapped a few pictures with the Hipstamatic camera. This one amazed me:
I've read reviews that the Hipstamatic camera app is not a favorite because it  really is like using an old-time camera from the 1950s in that you're not really sure how the picture will turn out until it is developed. I love the look of the photo taken with the John S lens.

I'm almost done with the Pic A Day in May blog challenge.

I owe a really big thank you to those blogger friends joining in on this photo challenge:

29th Pic in May

I was not planning on going the final day of the faire, but I decided to go at the last minute. It was another hot and humid day, but a nice breeze was blowing and it was tolerable in the shade.

The last day is bitter sweet; everyone is sad that the season is over and you'll miss seeing friends, but you're also kinda tired of it and you're happy to get back to having normal things to do on the weekend.

The vendors were having a sale to move some merchandise. I splurged... but I'll save the details for another blog post in June.

I edited this photo with the Camera360 app. This app is very cool and has many unique options. I could do a whole other month with new photo ideas just with the options on this app.

1,000th Post!

I've been thinking a lot about this date for a few weeks now... what would I blog about on this milepost of a day? And should I include a Patriotic photo with this being Memorial Day too?

I've been reading the book; The Forest Laird by Jack Whyte. It's a historical fiction about the life of William Wallace. This book is now one of my favorites. This stirs my blood and makes me proud to be a Celtic American with Scottish heritage!

I know Memorial Day is an American holiday, but why not honor those who have fought for freedom from our past too? The renaissance festival celebrates veterans today... every generation of civilization has fought for their country and their freedom.
Here is a picture I took (with the 360 app) at the end of the fair day. This is the front gates leading into another realm of knights, kings, nobles, shopkeepers and peasants. A medieval fair is historically accurate and I enjoy being a part of it. This is the closing weekend for Scarborough Faire!

I think it's fitting to honor all of those in our history who have fought to defend us and the freedoms we now enjoy.

My 1,000 posts too! I never knew I had this much to say.... Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog!

And thank you to those blogger friends joining in on this photo challenge:

27th Pic in May

I was driving home from the faire last evening and this was my view to the west:
The sun was going down and the humidity of the day had subsided. A nice breeze was blowing which made it a beautiful evening!

The photo was edited with a new app I found: HDR FX mini. It gets an "eh" rating... I'm not that impressed with it.

26th Pic in May - Pizza

Last evening after work I headed out to a happy hour with a few coworkers. We met at a place I've never been before called Pizza Lounge, renowned for their hand made, fresh ingredients pizza.
They served several ciders (YAY!) and the pizza was amazing! This it the Margherita pizza... OMG!

And one of the owners was a hottie to boot!

25th Pic in May

Yesterday I walked over to the Arts District to sit in the shade and read during lunch. On the way back to the office I stopped in front of the Myerson Symphony Center and took this picture with the 360 app.
I almost got a perfect 360 degree pic... but as I was finishing a security guard from the Myerson came outside to see what I was doing.

Happy Friday y'all!

A Pic on the 23rd of May

This is the building where I work in Downtown Dallas.
Years ago I used to love to photograph landscapes and close-ups of flowers but now-a-days I'm kinda bored with those. I love geometric lines and shapes and weird angles. I like shadows and contrasting lights. Anyway... I thought this is an interesting photo. It was taken with the Simply HDR app.

Pirate weekend adventures
Argh! 'Tis a pirates life for me!

Only a little hungover from Friday evening... we gathered the crew together and headed into the faire. We were loud and boisterous as ever and enjoying our rum. We ran into old friends and I joined in with the cast and another pirate crew for the parade though the fair grounds.

It were hot and humid in the afternoon but a good breeze kept us from melting! We dragged ourselves back to the hotel rooms at sunset for a quick change of clothes and a for a few of us, a quick nap before we headed out to dinner. There was 14 in our party! By the time we got back to the hotel it was late and we were exhausted. 'Twas a great day though.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

19th Pic in May

This post is coming to you from Waxahachie, TX! The city where the renaissance faire is located.

My friends are here from Austin and Houston so I also got a hotel room so that we could hang out and visit last night. More friends are coming in this morning from north Dallas and from Waco for Pirate weekend!
I though I'd unsheathe the sword since it must be "peace tied" while I wear it in the faire.

Yes, on certain days and with the right costume I carry this sword. Maybe I'll do another post later showing all the weapons I have... [evil grin]

Sorry, no fancy lens or even good lighting. I took this around midnight when I was a little drunk.

Have a great weekend y'all. AARRGGHHHH!!

Happy Friday!
This is me at work. I have a little rear view mirror that I keep on the corner of my monitor so I can see if someone walks up behind me.

Yes, I'm growing the goatee back... for now, even though it has wayyyyy to many gray hairs in it.

17th Pic in May - Signs

I took another route home the other night from work and the gym.
I noticed these signs and they made me laugh. That is a very short construction area... and one for someone driving up-side-down.

This blog challenge has made me look at things differently and has stirred my creativity into looking for things what would make a good picture. And also for using all the different camera apps I have.

This one was taken with Instagram. It's not my favorite app. It seems like it would be used by people who tweet a lot and I don't.

16th Pic in May - PEZ

I found these on my desk this morning.
My ultra-christian coworker brought them to me. He apparently has a huge collection of PEZ' and decided that I needed these.

They are Capt'n Jack Sparrow and the Orlando Bloom character Will Turner. This weekend is Pirate Weekend at the renaissance faire and all my crew will be coming in from all over Texas. We usually play "count the Jack Sparrows" on Pirate weekend.

This is an appropriate pic since today in my middle brother's birthday. We loved PEZ when we were growing up and this brings back many memories of my childhood.

Pic taken with the ToonCamera app.

Pic 15 in May Challenge

Last night I went to get on the bike to go for a ride. I hadn't ridden all weekend and I was wanting to get in a good ride.

That wasn't happening so soon... The front tire was flat! Dang it!

Well, I wasn't worried... I actually have 2 bikes. I got the older bike out, the "Wal-Mart special" bike that I use for backup or for friends who want to ride with me.

Wouldn't you know it... the back tire was flat! Double Dang it!
I changed the front tire since that was easier and got in a short ride. I snapped this picture as I was rearranging them in the storage closet. Now I have to go buy 2 new tubes. One for the back tire and another for a spare that goes in my biking backpack for emergencies.

A Pic A Day In May; 5.14

This was my view this morning as I was driving to work.
This is the Margaret Hill Hunt bridge that I blogged about before. The nickname of the bridge is Large Marge.

There is less traffic on the bridge and it cuts about 10 minutes off of my commute in the mornings!
This was taken with the Simply HDR camera.

A Pic A Day In May; 5.12

I was out riding the other night and found a field of thistles.

They were many huge ones too, probably about the size of a baseball. I took a lot of pictures of them and this is the only one that turned out. The iPhone camera didn't know where to focus and I finally got this picture.
I'm heading out this morning to pick one to wear with the kilt at the ren faire. The thistle is the national emblem of Scotland after all.

I like to get away from the office during lunch. I've blogged about the Plaza of the Americas building that is across the street from my office which is one of my favorite places to sit and read.

It's only Wednesday?
I've been working on this keyboard for 2 days now and still have 3 more. UGH!

Today is also my anniversary; 16 years at the bank! Boy, time flies when you're having... um, well, I wouldn't call this exactly fun!

Photo a day in May - Sexto de Mayo

It was a great day at faire. Very humid, but still very fun.
My friends and I were discussing how it's interesting that a particular outfit you wear gets more attention from people than others. If I'm wearing the red kilt and the suede jacket like I was yesterday I had more people asking to take my picture with them. More than when I wear the blue & green kilt or one of the royal jerkins and baggy pants.

We are off to the Scottish festival this morning where there will be many men in kilts doing manly things like tossing tabors (telephone poles) or throwing weights across the field. If you ever hear of some Scottish Highland games in your area be sure to go! I highly recommend it.

Hope y'all are enjoying the weekend.

Day 3: A pic A day In May - Discovering Dallas

Here is the newest edition to the Dallas skyline. The Museum Tower.
This building is across the street from my office and I've watched it being built. Today was the first time I've noticed that the exterior of the building looks to be done... no more scaffolding! This building is part of the Woodall Rodgers Park project in Dallas. The city is building a park over an existing 10 lane road! The road was lower anyway and so they're turning it into a tunnel.

On my drive into the city yesterday I noticed that this is now a prominent building in the skyline. And I remember parking in the parking lot that used to be in this spot!

It was cloudy yesterday when I took this picture with a new app I found; Simply HDR. I kinda like it!

Day 2: Blog Challenge - Hibiscus

As I walked towards my front day after a long day at work this greeted me at my door.
I have always loved the hibiscus and have never had any luck in growing them until I moved to my current home. My home faces south and it gets a lot of sun.

This was taken with a new camera/photo app called ToonCamera.

Day One - A Pic a Day in May

Happy Beltane!
I like celebrating the cross-quarter day; the midpoint between the spring equinox and summer solstice. The celebration of fertility! Woohoo for dancing 'round the "Maypole" *wink wink*

Of course I am still drawing a Tarot Card for May. This month it is The Queen of Wands reversed.
I need to be aware of people who are narrow minded, possessive, manipulative and controlling. I also have to trust in myself and a keep positive attitude.

I took this photo with the Hipstamatic camera app with the Jimmy lens. I like the look that this lens gives to the photos.
