Yellow lights

Caution!
This is what a yellow light really means when you see it while driving.

It does not mean "hurry up or you'll have to wait forever to get through this intersection". What it really means is; "slow down, the light is going to change and some other driver may need to get out of the intersection safely".

But why do we take it the other way? I've seen the joke told in several movies and sitcoms where from just observation people think it means 'speed up!'

We sometimes get yellow lights in our lives too and do we ignore them or transalate them to mean something else? I think we do... Yellow lights are doubts, stalls, fears, concerns, objections or tough questions. They can be obvious or subtle. It can be a gut feeling, a sixth sense or our bodies trying to tell us something.

I have been learning to slow down when I see a yellow light... in my life and while on the road. You don't have to slow down or stop on a yellow light... but maybe we should.

Note to Self #2

These are several notes to myself:

1. Don't drink pre-made margaritas at a party with friends.
2. Don't drink 12 year old scotch straight from the bottle with these friends on the same evening!
3. Drink some water between said drinks....

Let's just say I was completely useless yesterday after my buddy's suprise birthday pool party.

Unfortunelty I had to "unswallow" a few times...

UGH... not fun!

Happy Litha

Happy Midsummer, the first day of Summer and the Summer Solstice!

I also learned that this Pagan Holiday is sometimes called Litha.
Pagan Wheel of the Year

Nearly every culture in history has celebrated the high point of summer in some way. On this date the sun reaches its zenith in the sky. It is the longest day of the year, and the point at which the sun seems to just hang there without moving – in fact, the word “solstice” is from the Latin word solstitium, which literally translates to “sun stands still.” It is the day opposite of Yule.

Litha is a time to find a balance between fire and water. The crops are growing in the fields and the time for watering them begins.

I found this article on Litha: According to the old folklore calendar, Summer begins on Beltane (May 1st) and ends on Lughnassadh (August 1st), with the Summer Solstice midway between the two, marking MID-Summer. This makes more logical sense than suggesting that Summer begins on the day when the Sun's power begins to wane and the days grow shorter.

I hope everyone has a great summer and if you celebrate today... Blessed be!

A Midsummer's Eve Dream

OK... I'm no Shakespeare so don't get your expectations up. But tomorrow is Midsummer and I did have a very unusual dream last night.

I've had the same theme in several dreams through my life. In my dream I'm in a house where the doors couldn't lock and I feel threatened from something outside. This morning just before my alarm buzzed me into reality I was running though rooms in "my house" looking for something that I could use to fix my broken door lock.

I think when you dream of a house it represents how you feel about your life... and my "house" was looking kinda shabby. Maybe it's because I had just mentioned to a friend that my life right now feels kind of monotonous.

And alas, Stanley Tucci nor Rupert Everett were in my dream assisting me. **sad face** :(

Any thoughts on what my dream means?

The Dingo did it!

Do you remember the charade game scene in Priscilla Queen of the Desert? Do you remember the story from Australia and the famous line: "A dingo ate my baby!"?
I read an interesting news article today. After 32 years the coroner finally issued their findings: The baby was killed by a dingo!

Huh! I always thought they were shifty looking!

Braveheart vs. The Forest Laird

I finally got to see the movie Braveheart during my staycation. I mentioned in an earlier post that I would compare the movie with the book The Forest Laird, by Jack Whyte.

This is easy! The book wins by a landslide!

I really tried to not let Mel Gibson be the deciding factor, I really did base it on the plot. You see, there aren't many facts about the early life of William Wallace so both of these stories had to use some artistic license. In the movie it seems like they jump over 20 years of his life. The book goes into more detail.

Then the whole Mel Gibson factor comes into play. I remember he directed the movie besides staring in it. I think it won an Oscar for his direction... but not for his acting. He sure was proud of himself. Even back in the late 90s I didn't think he was that good looking... not as much as he thought he was!

I know most people prefer the book to the movie... but this was really about the story. The book was far better and one that I would recommend. In fact, it's my buddy's birthday and I gave him a copy of the book... I know he'll love it.

Movie Review - Avengers

I finally saw The Avengers today. To be honest... I really didn't like it.

I guess it's obvious that I don't go to the movies very much because I didn't know who the girl was... or the guy with the crossbow. And did they try to make Chris Evans look older on purpose?

I didn't like the action scenes.... they was too much going on too fast and I didn't get why they were all being snarky and bitchy to each other. I thought the costumes were kind of boring and the only cool special effects were the aliens!

I rate it a "meh". I'm sorry that I didn't wait till it was at the dollar theater. I could've spent a couple bucks on something better.

I know there are many that will disagree... so tell me what was so great about it? Because I missed it...

Watchin the ponies

Some friends called me around noon and wanted me to join them at Lone Star Park near Dallas. It's the horse racing park and they wanted to be at the track to watch (and bet on) the Belmont Stakes. I have never been to the races so I said I would join them.
It was OK. I enjoy spending time with my friends, I like to people watch too... but it was hotter than the devil's dick out there! OMG... it's not even the first day of summer and it's blazing hot!

I don't gamble though.... I lived in Las Vegas eons ago and I met a couple of people who lived and worked there trying to get enough money to move back to where ever they were from. It can be addicting and I have enough addictions that I don't need to be betting on anything! But I digress....

Do any of my readers or blog-buddies like the races? What is it about them that makes it so interesting and addictive?

Staycation

This week at work they sent an email asking who would like free tickets to see the Ft. Worth Symphony play at the Meyerson. Of course I said yes... I love going to the symphony! Some friends joined me and I had a wonderful evening. An old boyfriend of mine plays viola and I got a chance to speak with him after the performance. What a nice start to a long "staycation" weekend!

I have several options: chores around the house; a visit to the Dallas Arboretum to see the Chichuly exhibit, which I hear is most excellent; I could go to a mechanic to get that pesky "check engine" light on my dashboard checked out; or I could go see a couple of great movies that are out in theaters right now. Maybe I'll do all of the above!

I thought one of my options would be to lay by the pool to relax and get some sun.... but the homeowners association board decided that there were "safety issues" with the pool pump not working. The HOA board are not honorable people so I'm questioning their decision. *mean face* >:-(

I would have loved to be on a plane to Denver for their renaissance faire, but the before mentioned vehicle repairs and other expenses coming up didn't allow enough funds for me to go this year. *sad face* :(

I'm OK with that though... There is plenty to do in Dallas without having to travel. Maybe I'll even go out two-stepping one evening!

Happy Friday y'all!

Another post about random stuff

Today seems like a math day: 6+6=12

It started raining in Dallas today... I think I missed the weather reports because I got soaked on the way from the office to the parking garage. It's still raining now.

I got my hair cut... all of them. Well... most of them! *wink wink*

Apparently, I'm Boney Lips Jackson. :-/

Book Review - The Forest Laird

I'm almost finished reading my book; The Forest Laird by Jack Whyte.
It's a historical fiction of the life of William Wallace.

I love it!

And I've not seen Braveheart yet.... I just bought it tonight so I can watch it once I'm finished. The author said he didn't want the book to be like the movie... I wonder how it will compare? I'll let you know...

The book is very well written from the perspective of William Wallace's cousin who is a priest. It's very easy to read and is also very informative of the history of Scotland. Very accurate!

It makes me proud to have Scottish heritage.

And who doesn't agree? A man in a kilt is sexy!

My buddy and I came up with a new response when someone asks us what we wear under our kilt:

"This isn't 'show and tell' ya know.... What are ya gonna show me?"

Weekend stuff

I got a picture directly under the arch... finally.
The more I see this bridge the more I like... it seems to change shape from every angle.

Besides seeing the movie this weekend I went biking... and did laundry... woohoo! NOT

I slept in both mornings.. almost 10 hours of sleep! That was nice!

Movie Review - Snow White and the Huntsman

I was all set to go see The Avengers last night, but it was the 3D version and I didn't feel like paying more money to see it. I looked to see what else was playing and saw that this movie was starting soon. I got a great seat at the Studio Movie Grill (SMG) and ordered a Cherry Limeade Extreme (alcohol added). The SMG has improved their kitchen, the Tacos Carnitas I got were very good!

The film is a renaissance and fantasy themed movie. Not sure it's for everyone, but I loved it... thought it was great! The costumes were great, visual effects were outstanding and it had the hottie from Thor in it! Also the dwarfs steal the show, very funny!

This is one I will buy when it comes out on video!

Reynard

Remember I said I splurged on something on the last day of the renaissance faire?

I had been eying something for several weeks and when I walked into the shop to lust after it again the shop owner told me there was a sale on everything in the shop.

I meekly asked how much this was:
It was reasonable... I said I would think about it and walked out.

A short times later I just happened to run into a friend who had a pelt thrown over his shoulder as part of his outfit. His looked great and he told me he gets a lot of attention when he wears it. I told him about the red fox pelt I was thinking of getting and he encouraged me to buy it.

I waited until the end of the day, still unsure if I was going to go through with it or not. Finally as everyone was leaving I walked over to the shop. I told myself that this was fate... if the shop was closed it wasn't meant to be. On the other hand, it would be a great addition to several outfits I have.

Well, as you can see the shop was open and I made the purchase. YAY! I love it! I did get a lot of attention from people seeing it slung over my shoulder. By the way, it is very very warm! It will come in handy in the late fall and early spring fairs when the temperatures are very cool.
A friend informed me that I should name it. Hers was named Fergus. So I get home and googled names of foxes from literature. One of the first was the name Reynard. Wow! A red fox character from fables from the 12th century... how fitting! It's better then the next most popular name: Tod.

It's the perfect pet for me. I don't have to feed or walk him. I can leave him home just laying where he is.

Isn't he cute?

The Three of Cups
The Three of Cups signals a very sociable period! Music, dance and celebrations with friends. There is much in life to appreciate and enjoy.

Woohoo! Let's go dancin...
Now all is need is some lusty, busty person like in this card image! :-)

Maybe I'm still picture mode with some new apps I found on the iPrecious... this last photo is one of the special effects you get with the Camera360 app. I think it's cool.
